West Branch (Penobscot River)

West Branch (Penobscot River)

125.00

Historically, the West Branch of the Penobscot River was an alternative to the Piscataquis-Sebec-Onawa canoe route to Moosehead Lake between Bangor and Québec. Thoreau paddled the lower stretches of the West Branch on his first trip to the Maine Woods and his climb of Mount Katahdin. But today, the river is a place for white water adventure, echoing the routes of the famous river drivers and log drives to the dammed lakes created by the great paper companies that dominated Northern Maine.
